n two years’ time, the Philippines will be able to come out with a vaccine that will take dengue out as a fatal disease in the country, a doctor who is a top official of the National Committee on Urban Pest Control (NCUPC) told Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Intramuros, District 3810 of Rotary International, last Thursday, September 15, 2011.
Dr. Metodio Palaypay, executive director of NCUPC, said dengue as a dreaded disease will become a thing of the past when the vaccine is ultimately released. Palaypay was one of two guest speakers of the Rotary Club of Intramuros during its regular meeting Thursday.
He reiterated that his position that dengue cannot be defeated by acts like cleaning esteros and filthy surroundings since, he said, dengue-carrying mosquitoes (the Aedis Aegypti types) do not thrive in murky and dirty waters but in clear waters like those in pails and containers.
