Mantayupan Falls was one of Cebu’s tourist attraction and one of the tallest waterfalls in Cebu Province that situated in southern part of Cebu particularly in Brangay Mantayupan, in the Municipality of Barili, with a distance of 61 kilometer from Cebu City.
But, last Tuesday local residents of Barangay Mantayupan wondering why the river runs dry and surprised to find a sinkhole in the riverbed, spectators were cautioned to stay at least 10 meters away to avoid accident where the sinkhole grows wider and deeper. Curious residents and people from nearby towns and cities come to watch the waterfalls without water.
The local government of Barili response immediately and dispatched heavy equipments and dump trucks to filled the hole with soil. after filling the hole the water flowed again from Mantayupan Falls.
Local government will meet with the Mines and Geoscience Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to ask them to take immediate action. Local official admitted that at this point of time they don’t know what to do to prevent it happening again.
